Research
Investigating the ways that media shapes our understanding of the world.
Our Research
We explore the evolving relationship between information, technology and society, examining the ways that this influences the way people communicate, organise, learn and act.
These relationships are shaping how knowledge is created, communicated, applied, and developed across society.
Yet the mechanisms of this environment are becoming increasingly complex and often designed to manipulate the user. The associated ecosystems are often saturated with misinformation, disinformation, acronyms and slogans.
The result is that our ability to access good information, develop productive conversation and make fundamental strategic decisions is diminished.
Combining research with industry experience, we approach complex topics from first principles, helping people to understand the systems that store, process, and communicate information.
This understanding provides a foundation for developing the skills required to take full advantage of emergent media systems, navigate complexity, make informed decisions and play an active role in designing a human centred future.
Fostering Research Capability in Industry
An increasing amount of time available to UK industry is currently being diverted to the investigation of emergent technology. This activity is often informal, based on individual initiative and often unproductive.
This activity sits within a marketing culture that consistently and unhelpfully, pressures business with the thought of falling behind the technology curve.
We seek to break down the fundamentals of the current technology landscape so that each day's news of the-next-big-thing can be understood in context. We rationalise the ecosystem so that there is less requirement for systematic daily information gathering.
The ability to perform research is becoming a priority for business as the technology the ecosystem shifts.
We work with business to turn informal investigation into a structured, recognised activity with sensible, defined parameters for success.
There is often a tension for business when there is an impending requirement to take action but a weak ecosystem of data, information and knowledge to support purposeful and efficient decision making, especially in regard to the implementation of new technology solutions.
We use the idea of a lab to introduce foundational thinking into office environments to strengthen the culture of productive, informed and meaningful innovation within business.
